Hi...I have 3 dalmatians myself. Yes, any dog can be crate trained. But the question is, should they be? None of my dalmatians are, and they are perfectly well behaved dogs. But everyone's situation is different, and sometimes it is nessesary. But no dog should be crated for more than 4 hours straight, and the crate should be at least 2 times the size of the dog when full grown because they hate confinement. Even though mine are not crate trained, I have a crate available for them becuase sometimes they just like "to den" .I have had a total of 5 dalmatian over the last 20 years, and I know alot about them. They are very smart and need alot of exercise to be well behaved pets. I jog with mine 2 miles 3 times a day. they were breed for endurance. They are not dogs for a couch potato.or they will act out and drive you nuts. Keep up with the trick training and try to give him as much exercise as possible, and maybe he will be so sleepy he will seek out his crate to rest. That is what mine do. Please read as much as you can about the breed and it's needs. Also, try to feed a low protien diet when full grown because of the way dals process urine, they are prone to bladder stones which are painful and very expensive to have a vet remove. Good luck and remember, a "played out" pup is a happy pup and a happy pup = a happy owner.

Impossible?

Don't think so. They are energetic and you will need to thoroughly exercise them before crating, but that goes for just about any breed. Wear her out before sticking her in the crate.

if your dog can just stick half of her body in the to get the treats, the crate is too small. Get a bigger crate. Put her in the crate every night, even if you have to force her in it. Then when she is in it, cover it completely with a thick blanket, that way light will not come in, and it will creat a sound barrier. your og will be in a snug dark place and will grow comforatble.

How old is she? I'm guessing too young to wear her out with lots of exercise?

Is her bed in her crate?

Have you tried putting her feed bowl in there?

the crate should always be a happy, safe den and never a punishment place no matter how exhausting she may be.

place her food and water bowls in the crate. only feed her from those bowls. don't shut the door while she's eating for the first few times.

keep all of her toys in the crate and let her go in to get them.

last but far from least is the fact that you have a very high energy dog bred to run for miles beside horses and not tire. you have to wear her out. a tired dog is a cooperative dog.

All dogs can be and should be crate trained. However, crates are not meant to house a dog for long hours. It is for training purposes, and to confine them for short periods of time, no longer than 4 hours. A puppy needs to be let out more often to relieve itself, and get exercise. Never leave the dog in so long that it has no choice but to soil its den. The dog should feel safe a secure in its crate and want to sleep in it even when the door is open and allowed to roam freely. Just be persistant and it'll get used to it. NEVER USE THE CRATE AS PUNISHMENT!

Dalmatians are very disobedient and hard to train. It's hard to train them because they're so smart and they are known for biting strangers that enter your home. Just train it a lot harder than you would train a normal dog and be very stern with it. If you're not stern the dog will not learn. Dalmatians are not a very good first dog.

I think all dogs are crate trainable but I do know that Dalmatians need alot of room to play. The local Humane Society doesn't recommend you get a Dalmatian unless you have a big back yard. I think if you just take him for lots of walks outside he will get enough exercise. And good luck crate training.
